The Last Flight of Zulu Delta 576 investigated what happened to the Chinook helicopter that crashed on the Mull of Kintyre. The documentary found that Flight-Lieutenants Jonathan Tapper and Richard Cook, the two young pilots, should never have been blamed for the 1994 crash which killed 29 people on board.

This documentary led to questions in Parliament, a debate in the House of Lords and a campaign by politicians on all sides to re-open the case. After successive defence secretaries and Prime ministers refused to do so, the then Defence Secretary Liam Fox honoured a pledge made in opposition to review the evidence. He publicly apologised to the families of the pilots after an independent inquiry exonerated the men of gross negligence.

Mike Tapper, Jonathan’s father, thanked both the markers of the documentary, Channel 4 News who had reported on the story to clear the pilot’s names ever since, and all those who had campainged with the families over the years. He said the 17-year wait for justice was down to “some very wooden-headed people in the MoD“ adding “…this today, is closure“
